DefectA number of Transit and Transit / Tourneo Custom vehicles built with H7 AGM batteries may experience one or more of, acid smell or smell of rotten eggs in cabin, hissing sound, visible gas venting battery, or heat in the seat. Gas emissions during a normal Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) battery gassing event produce hydrogen and oxygen, however increased temperatures can lead to a side reaction which produces H2S (hydrogen sulphide).
